Technical Insole with Antistatic Material

Technical Insole with Antistatic Material

Technical performance, comfort and versatility for occupational and safety footwear

Developed for occupational and safety footwear applications, the JOMO technical insole uses a polyester-fibre-based material with stainless steel fibres incorporated into its structure. This composition contributes to the dissipation of electrostatic charges, supporting the antistatic performance of the complete footwear assembly.

Its construction allows for different configurations, coverings and finishes, as well as the incorporation of impact-absorbing elements in strategic areas such as the heel and forefoot. These options allow the insole to be adapted to each project’s requirements.

The base material has a specified electrical resistance between 101 kΩ and 1,000 MΩ. Its composition includes 80% recycled PET, combining technical characteristics with the use of recycled raw material.

Key features

  • Polyester fibre structure incorporating stainless steel fibres.
  • Base material with antistatic properties.
  • Specified base-material electrical resistance between 101 kΩ and 1,000 MΩ.
  • Moisture absorption and desorption capability.
  • Optional incorporation of impact-absorbing elements.
  • Base material containing 80% recycled PET.
  • Developed for occupational and safety footwear applications.

Test results

In IBTeC report No. 1471/14, issued in 2014, occupational footwear fitted with the insole identified in the document underwent antistatic testing in accordance with ABNT NBR ISO 20344. The assembly exhibited an electrical resistance of 61.4 MΩ under dry conditions and 8.7 MΩ under humid conditions, meeting the range stated in the report according to the requirements of ABNT NBR ISO 20347.

The insole sample also exhibited water absorption of 201 mg/cm², compared with the minimum requirement of 70 mg/cm², and water desorption of 100%, compared with the minimum requirement of 80%.

These results apply to the samples and conditions described in the report.

Application and validation

The antistatic properties of footwear depend on its complete combination of materials and construction. Coverings, adhesives, impact-absorbing elements and other components can influence its electrical behaviour.

Performance must therefore be verified by testing the final insole and footwear configuration together. The use of this insole alone does not classify or certify the finished footwear as antistatic.
